FAQs

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture is all about communication. No one understands your body better than you do, so it’s essential to inform your acupuncturist if you experience any discomfort during treatment. This is not a ‘No pain, no gain’ situation. Sensitivity to treatment varies: some people are more sensitive and others feel minimal sensation. Ideally, you should experience a gentle awareness of the needle location as qi and blood circulation improve. Jessica is known for her gentle needling style, with most clients reporting a profound sense of relaxation after their sessions.

How often do I need to book in?

How often you need to come in depends on your individual condition. Acute issues typically heal more quickly and may require 1-3 visits per week, with noticeable improvement in 1-2 weeks. Chronic conditions can be more complex; whether we're managing symptoms or working toward improvement, it will take longer. For chronic care, you might come in every 1-2 weeks or even monthly to maintain your best health.

Is Acupuncture backed by science?

Although acupuncture has roots that trace back over 2,000 years—long before clinical studies existed and anecdotal evidence was the primary source of validation—we now have a substantial body of research supporting its effectiveness for various conditions. For a more detailed list, see Chapter 3. Among the most well-studied and validated uses of acupuncture are treatment for headaches, sciatica, depression, adverse reactions to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, painful periods, morning sickness, turning breech babies, and labour induction.
